Occupy Denver General Assembly Procedures Committee is hosting a facilitation workshop so that more folk can help facilitate our leaderless General Assemblies!
The General Assemblies of Occupy Denver serve as a space and time for anyone to directly shape the direction and decisions of the movement through face to face discussion. Those present at GA collaborate by working together their diverse perspectives to come to consensus about proposals.
But the discussion and consensus of large numbers of people flows best when it is well facilitated. The facilitator is not the leader, but they play an important role in helping the group balance power, ensure open participation, and move the group forward to decisions.
At this workshop we will discuss facilitation experiences. We will briefly cover the theory and history of Occupy General Assemblies. We will discuss and practice procedures, techniques, and skills of facilitation. And we will close by determining how folks can become new facilitators or improve their facilitation.
